چکیده

m p c t a i p A s neuroeconomics enters its second decade, it is fair to ask whether it represents a useful confluence of two disciplines or simply a compound word with aspirations to be much ore. Neuroeconomics rests on two important assumptions: the rst is the ideal rational agent model, which guides the definition of ptimal decision making and the valuations that should underlie it. he second is that neuroimaging is capable of providing insights nto the neurobiology of the decision-making process. This special ssue attempts to stretch the methods and metaphors of neuroecoomics toward the characterization and understanding of psychitric disorders. Neuroeconomics gains extra strength from three features that ay help it reach beyond its beginnings: 1) its capacity to connect ecision-making variables to details of neural circuits including etails extracted from model animal systems; 2) its natural connecion to computational theory with the best example being reinorcement learning (1,2); and 3) its connection to game theory (3). All three areas provide support for the current effort to use euroeconomics to forge a new understanding of certain psychoathologies (e.g., [4]). One hope is that computational modeling nd game theoretic structuring of behavioral probes will help leverge this effort. To be successful, these early efforts must meet at east five important criteria:

The hypoxia-induced paralogs Scylla and Charybdis inhibit growth by down-regulating S6K activity upstream of TSC in Drosophila.

Diverse extrinsic and intrinsic cues must be integrated within a developing organism to ensure appropriate growth at the cellular and organismal level. In Drosophila, the insulin receptor/TOR/S6K signaling network plays a fundamental role in the control of metabolism and cell growth. Here we show that scylla and charybdis, two homologous genes identified as growth suppressors in an EP (enhancer...

Battling Scylla and Charybdis: the search for redundancy and ambiguity in the 2001 UMLS metathesaurus

I previously developed methods for identifying cases of multiple synonymous concepts (redundancy) and concepts with multiple meanings (ambiguity) and applied them to the 1995 UMLS Metathesaurus. These methods use semantic approaches (including knowledge about word synonymy and the semantic types assigned to concepts) to complement the standard lexical approaches. In this paper, I describe the r...

The urge to prevent restenosis after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty. Scylla and Charybdis in disguise.

W hen Odysseus attempted to sail unharmed between Scylla and Charybdis, he could not have dreamt to ever be quoted in relation to restenosis after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). To be truly successful, balloon dilatation should change the preexistent stenotic lesion to the extent that sufficient luminal widening is achieved and restenosis does not occur. Nevertheless, ap...
